My Story

I haven’t always been a designer and stylist, it came about after years of longing to do something creative but never having the faith. Lots of things happened to give me that leap of faith to believe in myself and follow my dreams, and I wanted to talk about them today. How I’ve carved a career based on all of the things that I love and how my passion for all that I do allows me to have the best time whilst doing it, which in turn means I can give my all to my clients and couples and create my best work for them. I’d love for you to read more about how I got to where I am…

MY BACKGROUND

You may be surprised to hear that my background is not in design. I was a PA & office manager in London for over ten years and I’m going to be completely honest with you now, I wasn’t happy. I went from role to role, wondering why none of the businesses were right for me. I always worked in creative industries but never performed the creative roles. I was desperate for something more but did not have the courage to take a leap or even believe i was good enough.

It took having my son to make this leap. I spent a very miserable few months pregnant in my last role, mistreated by my employer and wondering why I’d wasted so many years in a career that didn’t make me happy. When I had my son I knew I couldn’t leave him for a role I wasn’t happy in. I wanted more for him, to show him what his mummy was made of and make him be proud of me. I had to follow my creative passions.

TAKING THE LEAP

As I mentioned above, the big why into why I started my business was when I had my son and I knew I couldn’t return to a career that didn’t fulfil me and I was unhappy in. I delved deep into what I could do, and I knew it had to be something creative. I’d always loved all things creative in my personal life – I loved interior design and always took real pleasure in presenting things ‘just so’. When I had guests round for dinner, I’d style the table beautifully and have always had an eye for detail. I’m like a magpie, drawn to beautiful items with interest and history.

Ten years is a long time to spend in a career you don’t like, but I guess I didn’t realise how much I was unhappy until I was happy. I spent years wondering why something just wasn’t working, why all of my bosses frustrated me. But I didn’t believe in myself enough to pursue a creative career, I never thought it was a possibility until now, and I couldn’t be happier.

MY PASSIONS

So finally when I took that leap I knew I had to trust my ability to be creative, trust in my talents and follow my heart in what I  was creating. I’ve always had a love for the history of old objects and buildings, so it was important for me that this was imbedded into my business. I stumbled around for a couple of years, dabbling in my style until I did some more soul searching. I realised that I didn’t need to please everyone and by doing what I love, I could create a clear, consistent brand for other people to believe in just as much as I did.

To this day, my passions are imbedded in all I do. I am now of a curator of stories through design, which fills me with absolute joy. I must admit I never imagined my love of story-telling from my childhood and teenage years would play such a role in my business. The love of history and beauty remains, as well as my life-long passion of collecting things, much to my husband’s dismay!

THE LOVE I’VE DEVELOPED

Whilst all of those passions completely remain and are stronger than ever, my love has grown further into all that I do. I have a deep love for telling other people’s stories through considered and refined design and styling, whether that be for a wedding, a venue or a brand. What comes with that is a love for meeting all the new people and hearing those stories and being part of something very special. It brings a feeling like no other.

I have to admit that I have fallen head over heels for the wedding industry – from the stunning historical venues we have in the UK that I am lucky enough to work at, to the beautiful industry suppliers that I get to meet and speak to on a daily basis. It’s a truly collaborative and supportive industry, and one that allows me to by myself, to follow my passions and finally be the creative person I never thought I could be.

I so hope you enjoyed reading a little bit about my story and how I got to where I am. I feel so grateful that I get to do what I do. I love to tell my story and I believe it to be an extremely important part of business. As well as telling other people’s stories through my design and styling, I also help other creatives tell their stories and incorporate story-telling into their businesses.
